Piece of the Week: Bea Bongiasca’s ‘Double Loop’ Earrings
Commemorate “brat summer” with these green hoops.
Created in one of designer Beatrice Bongiasca’s favorite color combinations of green enamel and purple amethyst, the piece is on trend for “brat summer.”
“I think these earrings are brat because they are a loud and glamourous take on traditional hoop earrings, a touch of Bea and a drop of Brat,” said Bongiasca.
Being “brat” and having a brat summer have become a cultural phenomenon after the British singer-songwriter, Charli XCX, released her sixth studio album in June, titled “brat.”
The hyper-pop album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 album chart, with the artist supporting fans turning its title into an aesthetic.
The album cover’s simple acid-green background with “brat” written across the middle in a low-resolution Arial font has popularized the color, making it the center of the trend.
The Double Loop earrings are a refined take on the edgy, Y2K-inspired brat aesthetic.
Made of 9-karat yellow gold and silver covered in “pistacchio” enamel, the lower hoop features a drop-cut amethyst, totaling 1.60 carats between both earrings.
Bongiasca designed the piece to give the illusion of an earlobe with stacked hoops, as she doesn’t have a second piercing.
All the wearer needs is a single piercing to hold the first hoop, as the second hoop is connected to the back of the piece.
Bongiasca’s inspiration often stems from her deep passion for pop culture and contemporary art and design, said the brand.
Now is the perfect time to revive the brat green Double Loop earrings, which were released last year.
“As a millennial, it is always a brat summer for me,” said Bongiasca.
“In the end, what is being encouraged is to have fun, in this case in particular, during the lightheartedness of summer, notwithstanding the struggles or hard moments that you may be facing. Also, as someone who loves pop music, or in this case, hyper-pop music, I am always 100 percent down for these fun aesthetics.”
The Double Loop earrings are part of the brand’s “Loop” collection.
The pair retails for $1,770 and is available on Bea Bongiasca’s website.
