Piece of the Week: Marrow Fine’s ‘Sculptural Freeform’ Earrings
The earrings were inspired by the landscape at Joshua Tree and Jean Arp’s abstract sculptures.
The 14-karat yellow gold “Sculptural Freeform” earrings by Marrow Fine feature a round-cut diamond at the top of each earring and pavé diamonds along the outer shape ($7,950).
At the intersection between art and nature are Marrow Fine’s large “Sculptural Freeform” diamond earrings.
When creating the freeform design of the layered amoebas in this piece, Jillian Sassone, the creative director and founder of Marrow Fine, found inspiration from works by Dadaist sculptor Jean Arp and the rounded shapes of elements found in the landscape at Joshua Tree.
“The rounded smoothness of the boulders at Joshua Tree and the organic unusual shapes of Arp’s early works both felt like they could be expressed in jewelry form,” said Sassone.
“In order for the pieces to be successful, they needed to feel like a sculpture where they could be observed from a 360-degree perspective and feel special.”
Made of 14-karat yellow gold, the earring’s outer shape is covered in pavé diamonds in various sizes, totaling 2.29 carats for the pair.
The inner shape hangs from a round-cut diamond, with both totaling 0.44 carats, and sways as its wearer moves.

The Sculptural Freeform earrings are part of Marrow Fine’s new “The Shape of Things” collection, which launched in May.
They are also offered in 14-karat white and rose gold, retailing for $7,950.
