Riva Adds Lapidary Services to Manufacturing Lineup
The jewelry manufacturer will now offer custom and production cuts for customers as well as a limited quantity of gems for immediate sale.

The full-service jewelry manufacturer has added custom and production lapidary services to its lineup.
The new lapidary department, which is part of its Brooklyn, New York facility, can offer clients any cut in any quantity, Riva said, from single custom gems to multiples for production.
When asked if customers supply their own rough or rely on Riva to source it, the company said it is up to each client to choose. For customers turning to Riva for multiple cuts, most so far are leaving the sourcing to Riva, while some provide the rough and Riva cuts according to their specifications.
The manufacturer declined to release specific pricing details for the lapidary services.
The company noted customers seeking its stone cutting services must also have a contract manufacturing account with Riva, providing for its involvement in the piece(s) start to finish.
For those who want loose stones only, Riva has a limited quantity of gems for “off-the-shelf sales,” listed in a catalog online. The company will restock that inventory every two weeks.
Founder and CEO Ted Doudak said adding lapidary services was a “natural step” for the manufacturer as it fits perfectly with the other services it has developed for high-end designers and brands.
He said the new service will benefit clients by creating an easy execution, allowing for collaboration at all points in the process since it will all be under one roof and full responsibility for cutting and manufacturing left to Riva, and eliminating delays due to third-party stone suppliers.
The company said it anticipates the new service being of the greatest interest to designers and jewelers who need a unique gem as part of an individual, custom design project—especially since the costs to do so through international cutters can be prohibitive for some—and those who need reproducible cuts for a collection or line.
Other services from Riva include product development, casting, fabrication, full bench and stone setting services, enameling, metal fabrication, and chain manufacturing.
