Piece of the Week: The Pink ‘Rose’ of Argyle
This ring is set with a 1.36-carat fancy deep pink diamond from Australia’s Argyle mine.

The “Argyle Rose” features a 1.36-carat fancy deep pink diamond surrounded by blue diamonds with pink diamonds on the underside as a hidden detail, all from the Argyle Diamond Mine in Western Australia, along with 2.8 carats of white diamonds.
Rio Tinto said the fancy deep pink was one of the last diamonds mined from Argyle before it closed in November 2020.
It also is just one of 12 radiant-cut diamonds larger than a carat with a color grade of 1P ever recovered from the mine. (1P is the highest color grade for pink diamonds on the grading scale created for Argyle diamonds.)
The stones were hand-set in platinum and 18-karat gold, and the ring doubles as a pendant.
Retailer Solid Gold Diamonds in Perth, Western Australia, designed the piece and Rio Tinto introduced it in May as part of the Argyle Pink Diamonds Icon Partner program. The program aims to elevate and preserve the provenance of pink diamonds of the mine.
Solid Gold Diamonds is selling the ring/pendant, which was still available for purchase as of press time.
It is priced at $2 million Australian dollars ($1.3 million).
