See the Collection Crafted Around the Cruzeiro Mine’s Brazilian Gemstones
A collaboration between the mine and five Brazilian jewelry designers was on display at the 2022 Couture Show.

Las Vegas—Thanks to a partnership between brand development agency Julls and the Cruzeiro mine, Brazilian designers and Brazilian gemstones were in the spotlight at the recent Couture show in Las Vegas.
The mine and agency invited a select group of designers from or based in Brazil to create an exclusive collection using the miner’s gemstones to present at the jewelry trade show.
The Julls x Cruzeiro collection comprises designs from Bia Tambelli, Carolina Neves, Casa Castro, Fiszman Jewel, and Loxus Joias.
It features 15 pieces, ranging in price from $9,660 to $133,700.
Julls works with Brazilian independent jewelry designers to introduce and represent them in international markets.
The Cruzeiro mine, located in Minas Gerais, Brazil, has been managed by the Neves family since 1982, when brothers Antonio and Jose Neves acquired it and founded Nevestones.
They sold almost everything they had to support their vision, but it wasn’t long before they were rewarded with big finds.

The mine is located on a mountain about two hours outside of Governador Valadares in Minas Gerais, Brazil, surrounded by lush green scenery.
It produces about eight tons of tourmaline per year.
The mine is located in a mineral-rich area that produces several different gems, including quartz, morganite, and aquamarine, but it’s tourmaline that really put the mine on the map. Consistently averaging eight tons of tourmaline per year and producing for more than four decades has made Cruzeiro the “world’s most productive tourmaline mine,” Guild Gem Lab said in a 2019 article.
Of those eight tons of tourmaline per annum, about 40 percent is black tourmaline, 30 percent is green, 20 percent is pink, 5 percent is blue or indicolite, and 5 percent is rubellite.
The collaboration marks Cruzeiro’s first with Julls, which chose the mine not only for the quality of its gems but also because its fair mining practices and reputation in the international gem market made it the right partner to help showcase the chosen designers.
“Visiting the mine was such a life-changing experience,” said Debora Lucki, who oversees communications and opening new markets for Julls.
“At the end of the day, everybody cares for the planet … Once they are touched by the fair mining process, there’s no way back!”

Casa Castro’s earrings featuring carved jade, 6.67 carats of rubellite, 0.32 carats of diamonds, and 18-karat gold ($27,472.75)
This four-finger ring from Loxus Joias features blue tourmaline (6.71 carats), diamonds (1.04 carats), and 18-karat white gold ($9,660).
Bia Tambelli Creations’ 18-karat gold earrings with 13.2 carats of tourmaline in 22.5 carats of rock crystal and 1.5 carats of diamond accents ($49,600)
This 18-karat gold necklace from Carolina Neves is made with 14.85 carats of green tourmaline, 1 carat of blue tourmaline, 22.85 carats of pink tourmaline, and 0.81 carats of diamond accents ($49.600).
Its presence at the 2022 Couture show also marked the first time Julls had its own booth at the event.
“Telling this story at Couture for the people who really care for the environment makes the process and the work make sense, and we felt even more powerful to present the final fine jewelries for the retailers,” Lucki said.
Julls said they will continue the partnership, with plans to have an even bigger space at Couture next year, with more designers included and more pieces showcased.
