We Tested Zales’ New Vera Wang Ring Try-On Kit
Customers can create a ring online and receive a kit of prototypes to take for a test run.
Zales is letting customers try on engagement rings at home via its new Vera Wang Love Try-On Kit program.
Akron, Ohio—Zales is partnering with legendary bridal designer Vera Wang on a new at-home, engagement ring try-on kit.
The Signet Jewelers-owned brand’s new program, launched Oct. 25, lets customers design an engagement ring online and test it out at home.
“We’re one of the first in the fine jewelry industry to roll out a service like this, and we’re excited to give customers a novel avenue to connect with us whenever and wherever they are,” said Jamie Singleton, president of Kay, Zales, and Peoples.
“Our customers are already loving the option to customize their own engagement ring. This just further advances the process and makes it more convenient, combining digital and tactical experiences.”
Using the Vera Wang Love online design tool, customers can choose from different stone shapes, stone size and clarity, settings, mountings, and metal types.

Then, a prototype will be sent to the customer’s home for a try-on period of seven days.

For a $200 security deposit, the kit includes three center stones, three mountings, and two bands. (Editor's note: As of February 2022, Zales had dropped the price of the security deposit to $99.)
Samples are made in a stainless-steel alloy with yellow, white, or rose gold tone finishing. The center stones are made of cubic zirconia in the size the customer chooses—0.25 carats, 0.5 carats or 1 carat for try-on purposes, though customers can build a ring accommodating up to a 2 carat stone for the final product.
The kit also includes three insert cards with details about the program and a ring sizer. The prototypes are only available in a size 6.5, but the final ring will be made in the customer’s size.
When the kit is returned, the security deposit is refunded.
“I’m thrilled that now customers will be able to experience my designs and make a ring that speaks to them and their love,” said Vera Wang. “I’ve always been a huge fan of convenience and personalization. This service allows customers to do both to find their perfect ring.”
