A 15.23-carat fancy intense orangy pink diamond garnered $6.1 million at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels sale Tuesday in New York, coming in at the low end of its pre-sale estimate.
Set in a platinum ring, the cushion-cut VS2 diamond is accented by 0.75 carats of round diamonds. The lot’s anticipated sale price was $6 million to $7 million.
The second highest-grossing lot of the sale was an exceptional Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring, which topped its pre-sale estimate when it sold for $5.1 million and set a world auction price per carat record for any sapphire at $180,731 per carat.
The ring boasts a 28.18-carat Kashmir sapphire framed by 32 tapered baguette diamonds and set in a platinum mounting made by Oscar Heyman & Brothers.
An emerald ring, featuring the 36.53-carat “El Dorado” emerald flanked by two triangle-shaped diamonds and set in 18-karat gold, sold for $2.2 million.
Also included in the sale’s top 10 lots was a platinum, emerald and diamond Cartier bracelet, a pair of diamond stud earrings weighing 10.03 carats total, a David Webb ring centered on a 14.26-carat diamond, and a Tiffany’s 12.71-carat Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring, among others.
