Hong Kong--A necklace featuring two Golconda diamonds could sell for as much as $10 million at Christie’s Hong Kong auction, scheduled for May 27.
Called “The Eye of the Golconda,” the necklace’s D-color, internally flawless, type IIa pear- and cushion-shaped diamonds are 40.05 and 6.76 carats in sized and are joined by a single emerald.
Golconda diamonds are characterized by their “water-clear” appearance and a degree of transparency rarely seen in stones from other localities, Christie’s said. They often are graded as type IIa, which represent less than 2 percent of the world’s production of gem-quality diamonds.
The Golconda diamond necklace is the projected top lot of Christie’s spring Magnificent Jewels sale, slated for May 27 in Hong Kong.
The auction will offer more than 300 lots, including an array of colored diamonds and is expected to total around $100 million.
A complete list of lots in the auction can be found on Christie’s website.
