101-carat diamond sells for $5M at Christie’s
A cushion-cut, L color, VS2 diamond weighing 101.36 carats sold for $5 million, or $49,100 per carat, during Christie’s Important Jewels auction held Wednesday.

The auction house’s sale, which took place in New York, totaled $33.7 million. It was only 75 percent sold by lot and 77 percent sold by value.
The second highest-grossing lot was a rectangular- and circular-cut, K color faint brown VVS1 diamond pendant weighing 81.38 carats, which garnered $3.2 million.
In addition to the 101-carat diamond, a number of other colorless diamonds dominated the auction’s top 10 lots, including an H color, rectangular-cut 23.89-carat diamond that garnered $1.6 million; an F color, potentially internally flawless diamond weighing 16.07 carats that sold for $1.5 million; and a rectangular-cut, G color VVS2 diamond of 16.99 carats that went for $1.1 million.
Also included in the top lots was a 15.08-carat Cartier diamond ring that sold for $1.1 million and a Tiffany & Co. Ceylon sapphire and diamond ring that garnered $587,000.
