Piece of the Week: Van Cleef’s ‘Sous La Lune’ Necklace
It’s from the maison’s high jewelry collection inspired by stories from the Brothers Grimm.

High jewelry represents the height of creative fantasy, so it is fitting that Van Cleef & Arpels’ latest collection was inspired by fairy tales.
The “Sous La Lune,” or “Under the Moon,” necklace with detachable clip was inspired by “Town Musicians of Bremen” specifically, and the deep colors of the night recounted in the story.
The detachable pendant features a 29.44-carat Colombian emerald cabochon surrounded by emeralds, sapphires and fancy-cut diamonds. The necklace is comprised of 464 Burmese sapphire beads set in five rows, weighing a total of 647.02 carats, alongside additional diamonds, sapphires and emeralds.
The “Quatres Contes de Grimm” or “Four Stories of Grimm” high jewelry collection was photographed by French photographer Sonia Sieff at the Belvédère Palace in Vienna, Austria.
