Piece of the Week: Gaelle Khouri’s Twister Ring
Conceptual and innovative, the Lebanese designer is one to watch.

New York--Lebanese upstart fine jeweler Gaelle Khouri has two sides to her design approach: literal and abstract.
Her Twister Ring, meant to be worn on the thumb, falls starkly into the latter category.
Crafted in 18-karat yellow gold and blackened sterling silver set with colored sapphires, the ring is part of Khouri’s second collection, called Soft Deconstruction, which was inspired by the German philosopher Georg Hegel’s ideas about humans’ inner and outer aspects.
For Khouri, the Twister Ring symbolizes man’s inner world.
“Thoughts are depicted in the form of lines, because like lines, they bend and twist,” she said. “When considered separately, a single thought, like a line, feels simple and straightforward. It is when a multitude of thoughts come and interact together that simplicity is removed and the thinking and emotion become a complex system.”
The Twister Ring retails for $3,300.
Khouri is stocked at Stanley Korshak and on fine jewelry e-tailer Auverture.com.
