Though many jewelry designers say that world travel has inspired their creations, Ashley Gilroy Wein of J/Hadley’s experience with creating jewelry actually did begin in earnest while she was abroad.
After graduating college and embarking on a trip, she saw pieces in a small family jewelry shop in India that were unlike any she had seen before, kicking off a two-year apprenticeship with the Jain family to learn about design, gemstones and manufacturing.
She since has launched her own brand, J/Hadley, centered on bright, bold gemstone pieces with diamond accents. The spring/summer 2015 collection uses warm oranges and pinks that hint at warm weather, as well as strong blues and greens in pieces made to be noticed.
“I’ve always loved working with fiery opals and sapphires, as it plays to a woman’s strengths and reminds her of the energy inside herself,” Wein said, adding that, “It takes a certain type of woman who wants to wear bold, colorful, statement gems.”
