Gold, cocktail rings steal the Grammy show

Although the jewelry choices were more subdued at the 56th annual Grammy Awards, which took place Sunday in Los Angeles, gold pieces with brightly colored gemstones were a popular accessory among attending celebrities.

Although the jewelry choices were more subdued at the 56th annual Grammy Awards, which took place Sunday in Los Angeles, gold pieces with brightly colored gemstones were a popular accessory among attending celebrities.

Earrings and rings in white, rose and yellow gold were a common sight, as many stars wore high-neckline gowns, which mean fewer necklaces and more adornment on the fingers and ears.

Color also was highly visible on drop earrings and cocktail rings, with many pieces boasting semi-precious gemstones, such as spinel, hematite and opal.

Jewelry at the show was noticeably less glamorous than in past years, which could be attributed to a change in attitude among younger consumers, a change that is manifesting itself in music. Two of the night’s big winners, rapper Macklemore and New Zealand singer Lorde, are known for touting a less-than-lavish lifestyle in their music.

Still, jewels were present, just in a more toned-down manner. Click through this slideshow to see the Grammy Awards jewelry.
