New York--Clothing designer Zac Posen is teaming up with diamond and gemstone wholesaler Fabrikant-Tara International to create a fine jewelry collection that is expected to debut this fall.
While Posen’s company did not respond to National Jeweler’s request for comment on the collaboration, Women’s Wear Daily reported that Posen said it is the “right time to step into the fine jewelry market.”
The gown designer will debut his jewelry under two of his secondary lines, Truly Zac Posen, which is bridal focused, and ZAC Zac Posen, his contemporary offerings. The designer’s clothing will inspire his jewelry.
Fabrikant-Tara International is a division of Tara Jewels Holding, which supplies wholesale diamonds and gemstones to major retailers including Wal-Mart Group, Sterling Jewelers Inc. and Zale Corp., which is now part of Sterling/Signet Jewelers Ltd.
Posen isn’t the only non-jewelry designer to expand into the fine category recently.
Home décor creator Michael Aram recently announced his foray into the industry with the launch of a sterling silver and 18-karat gold collection that hit stores in late August.
