US Kimberley Process Authority Director Steps Down
Mark Gershburg, the founder and CEO of Gemological Science International, is leaving his post at the USKPA and will be replaced by IGI President and CEO Jerry Ehrenwald.
New York--Mark Gershburg, the founder and CEO of Gemological Science International, announced Monday that he’s stepping down as a director of the U.S. Kimberley Process Authority after more than a decade with the organization.
Jerry Ehrenwald, the president and CEO of the International Gemological Institute, will take this place.
A board of directors governs the New York-based association, which had been comprised of Cecilia Gardner, president and CEO of the Jewelers Vigilance Committee, Martin Hochbaum, the former managing director of the Diamond Dealers Club of New York, and Gershburg.
In the news release issued Monday via GSI, Gershburg said he was stepping down in order to concentrate on the laboratory, which he opened in New York in 2005.
“It was a difficult decision to make, but the growth of GSI left me very little time for other activities,” he said. “I don’t want to be a part of any organization if I can’t dedicate my time to it. I hope that my departure from the USKPA will be an opportunity for it to bring in (a member of the) younger generation as my replacement.”
