Mouawad Just Cut This 54-Carat Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond
The jeweler says it’s the largest round brilliant fancy vivid yellow diamond in the world.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates—Mouawad just finished cutting what it says is the largest round brilliant fancy vivid yellow diamond ever graded by the Gemological Institute of America.
Dubbed the “Mouawad Dragon” because, the high-end jeweler said, it is “reminiscent of the dragon’s magical powers and fiery eye,” the stone is 54.21 carats.
It was planned and cut over a six-month period from a piece of yellow rough mined in South Africa, which produces the bulk of the world’s large, intense yellow diamonds.
The rough used to create the 128.54-carat “Tiffany Diamond” was mined in South Africa, as was the rough that became the fancy vivid yellow pear-shaped “Sun-Drop,” which Sotheby’s sold at a November 2011 jewelry auction for $10.9 million.
Mouawad said its next step is to create a piece of jewelry for the 54-carat Dragon.
Started in Lebanon in 1908 and now headquartered in Geneva, Mouawad is a fourth-generation jewelry business known for buying big, rare diamonds and using them to craft spectacular pieces. Past acquisitions include the 51.12-carat D flawless “Dynasty” diamond mined in Russia, the 245.35-carat Jubilee and the 69.42-carat Taylor-Burton diamond.
The company has boutiques throughout the Middle East and Asia and a distribution office in Los Angeles.
