The lab offers a full range of gemological services and will focus on its new AI-powered gem document, the Gem Passport.
Bangkok is widely considered an important hub for the colored gemstone industry.
Gübelin said its decision to expand into the city is a strategic move to meet the growing demand for reliable, trustworthy gemological services.
"As one of the most vibrant centers for gemstone trade, Bangkok is an ideal location for the Gübelin Gem Lab to offer its services, especially the Gem Passport powered by Gemtelligence," said Raphael Gübelin, president of the House of Gübelin.

The Gem Passport contains the main identification features of a gemstone, including species, variety, country of origin, and a simplified disclosure of treatment.
The information in the report is provided from a fully automated evaluation of the analytical data (such as spectra and chemistry) collected from a stone, said the company.
To retrieve the data, Gübelin uses its gemstone analyzation tool Gemtelligence, which uses an algorithm based on AI to identify the country of origin for rubies, sapphires, and emeralds, as well as heat treatments in rubies and sapphires.
Using this technology shortens testing workflow, particularly the labor-intensive microscopic assessment, said Gübelin, and allows the company to offer the document at a low price.
The Gem Passport costs CHF 200 ($215).
Available for unmounted rubies, blue sapphires, and emeralds weighing up to 3 carats, Gübelin said the document is also attractive for gemstones of smaller sizes or moderate values.
"The introduction of the Gem Passport represents a milestone in making trusted gem analyses more accessible and affordable," said Daniel Nyfeler, managing director at Gübelin Gem Lab.
Gübelin notes that Gem Passports differ from gemological reports “in terms of the completeness, depth, breadth, details, and numbers of analyses, as well as the evaluation and interpretation of the collected data.”
Gübelin’s Bangkok lab is located in the area’s gem and jewelry district on the 29th floor of the Jewelry Trade Center Building at 919/363 Silom Road.
This is the company’s fourth permanent location, as it also has a presence in Hong Kong, New York, and Lucerne, Switzerland.
