SRK honors Dalai Lama with award
The Dalai Lama was honored with the Santokbaa Award by Shree Ramkrishna Exports Pvt. Ltd. during a recent visit to Surat, India.

Mumbai--The Dalai Lama was honored with the Santokbaa Award by Shree Ramkrishna Exports Pvt. Ltd. during a recent visit to Surat, India.
He was given the award for his efforts to make the world a more peaceful, kind place, SRK said. It was presented to him by Om Prakash Kohli, the governor of Gujarat, on Jan. 2.
The SRK Foundation also bestowed upon him a check and a diamond-studded trophy.
During his tour of Surat, the Dalai Lama also took the time to interact with students and fellow Tibetans at a seminar organized by SRK, where he also spoke regarding “Ethics in Business in the Current Century.”
The Santokbaa Award is given to people that have served society with compassion, truth, dedication and selflessness, SRK said. It was created in 2007 in memory of SRK Founder Govind Dholakia’s late mother.
The 14th Dalai Lama is a Buddhist monk as well as a spiritual and political leader of Tibet. He also was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his non-violent struggle for the liberation of Tibet.
Past recipients of the award include Dr. Sam Pitroda, Indian engineer, business executive and policymaker; Dr. Verghese Kurien, social entrepreneur known as the “Father of White Revolution” in India for his agricultural development program; Dr. H.L. Trivedi, renowned kidney transplant surgeon; and Professor M.S. Swaminathan, known as the pioneer of the Green Revolution in India, among others.
