Ramat Gan, Israel--Tensions in the Middle East have led the Israel Diamond Exchange to postpone International Diamond Week, an organized trading event set to take place in Ramat Gan next month.
New dates for the event, originally scheduled to take place Sept. 1 to 4, have not been selected.
In a statement released Monday, IDE President Shmuel Schnitzer said, “In view of the recent events in our region, the board of the Israel Diamond Exchange decided to postpone the Israel Diamond Week … for several weeks.”
The IDE has informed all registered buyers and invited guests of the postponement, said IDE General Manager Moti Besser. He added that they will keep the industry posted regarding future dates for a diamond week in Israel.
Gemological Institute of America President and CEO Susan Jacques was set to be the guest of honor for the week-long event that brings together polished diamond buyers and sellers from all over the world to do business at the IDE in Ramat Gan.
