Murfreesboro, Ark.--Visitors uncovered a total of 453 diamonds at the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas last year, down from the 530 found in 2012, according to Park Interpreter Margi Jenks.
Of the diamonds found, 19 weighed more than one carat, and six of those were more than two carats.
Notable finds at the public park located in Murfreesboro in 2013 included the 5.16-carat “God’s Glory” diamond, the 2.13-carat “Nona J” diamond, the 2.1-carat “Andrea Birthday” diamond and the 2.05-carat “Flint Hill Special” diamond.
Arkansas residents constituted about one-third of the year’s diamond finds, park officials said, with the rest found by visitors from 33 states, including New Hampshire, California, Montana and Florida. Diamond finders also hailed from Germany, Mexico and Belize.
As of Nov. 30, a total of 112,477 visitors had come to the Crater of Diamonds in 2013, hailing from all 50 U.S. states and more than 15 foreign countries.
Crater of Diamonds also identified nearly 40,000 stones last year, some diamonds, and others rocks and minerals.
“Most media outlets use the week between Christmas and New Year’s to look back and recap the highlights of the past year,” Jenks said. “So, I have compiled some of the more fascinating numbers from the Crater of Diamonds State Park.”
