Piece of the Week: A “Bit of LUV” for the Derby
Karina Brez’s race-ready piece is a sophisticated nod to the horse-rider relationship.

While fashion has evolved since the 1800s, eventgoers have always put as much thought into what to wear as which horse to bet on.
Though the hat is arguably the most important accessory at Churchill Downs, the right jewels are also essential.
With Western styles enjoying another round in the trend spotlight, there should be no shortage of cowboy-esque glamor at this year’s Run for the Roses.
Karina Brez, self-defined luxury equestrian jeweler, has the perfect piece for a fabulous look that stays on theme.
From her “Bit of LUV” collection, this bracelet features a chain link design inspired by the horse bit, a part of the bridle riders use to communicate with their horse.
The idea came about when a client brought her horse bit to Brez, asking for a custom piece to be created with the shape.
The result is a sophisticated acknowledgement of the unique wordless relationship between horse and rider.
“The ‘Bit of LUV’ bracelet feels like butter in your hand. All the links are movable, and the pictures are great, but the feel of it is even smoother and more comfortable to wear than one realizes,” Brez said.
It comes in three sizes and is available in 18-karat white gold, yellow gold and rose gold.
The 18-karat rose gold option features 0.70 carats of diamonds and retails for $5,000.
The made-to-order piece is available to shop on the Karina Brez website.
