AGA Brings Back Scholarship, Research Grant
Scholarship applications are being accepted now, and the window for the grant will open in May.
The Accredited Gemologists Association has announced the return of its AGA Gemological Education Scholarship and AGA Gemological Research Grant awards, which it has not offered since 2019.
New York—In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the Accredited Gemologists Association (AGA) has announced it has brought back the AGA Gemological Education Scholarship and AGA Gemological Research Grant awards.
The scholarship is available to need- and merit-based recipients globally who are pursuing a career in gemology.
Scholarship funds, up to $5,000, may only be used for tuition and practical classes and are paid directly to the institution.
Courses, classes, or workshops must be successfully completed by the end of the year following the date the scholarship is awarded, the scholarship website page states.
Application criteria and submission guidelines are available on this page of the AGA website.
The research grant is designed to support individuals developing a scientific research project with a subject in or directly related to gemology.
The grant provides funding of up to $10,000 for an approved project as authorized by the AGA Board of Governors.
Applicants must have an established relationship with a gem research laboratory or a scientific institute to accomplish the proposed project. They must also have a degree in science and/or extensive experience in a related gemological field.
The project must be finished one year from the transfer of funds, with the committee considering reasonable extension for unexpected circumstances, the grant website page states.
Quarterly progress reports to the Educational Scholarship and Research Grant Committee are required.

The organization has not offered the awards since 2019.
Funding for the scholarship and grant are voted upon annually by the AGA Board, it said. The offering was put on hold until now due to the pandemic, as past recipients had chosen to travel for their education.
“AGA is excited to extend these special awards, especially for our 50th anniversary year,” said AGA President Teri Brossmer.
“By funding these awards, AGA remains true to the vision of our founders and our mission to support gemological education and research. We look forward to receiving many applications and watching each recipient’s professional advancement and success.”
The application window for the scholarship is open now until May 15.
Applications for the research grant will be accepted from April 15-July 15.
