3 Notable Jewelry Moments from the Golden Globes

Amid the statement necklaces, Lily Gladstone’s earrings stood out, Editor-in-Chief Michelle Graff writes.

I just finished watching “My So-Called Life” for the first time, which is to say, I’m not the best when it comes up to keeping up with TV shows. It also takes me time to get around to watching new movies, even when the trailer intrigues me.

But we’re without a fashion editor right now, so I tasked myself with watching the Golden Globes on Sunday night to see what everyone was wearing despite the fact that I’ve seen almost none of the shows/movies that were nominated.

These are three looks that caught my eye, in no particular order.

Barry Keoghan
There were few truly interesting jewelry looks at the Golden Globes and in fact, I saw several attendees and thought, “they could use a necklace,” or “they could do with a great pair of earrings.”

Da’Vine Joy Randolph is one who pops to mind. I loved her in “The Idol” (one of the few shows I did watch) and was pleased to see her win Sunday night for her role in “The Holdovers,” which is on my to-watch list.

I’d like to see brands step up with some statement jewelry for Randolph as awards season continues.

I did, however, like the jewelry Irish actor and “The Banshees of Inisherin” star Barry Keoghan paired with this red Damier pattern Louis Vuitton suit.

His stylist, Ilaria Urbinati, deserves credit for putting together the best men’s look of the evening.

According to Urbinati via Instagram, the brooch Keoghan wore is from Tiffany & Co., while the watch is Omega.

The necklace (and matching earring, I assume) also is Louis Vuitton, but it is costume jewelry, not fine; it is the brand’s “Dynasty” necklace with zircon and glass pearls.

Another fun jewelry connection: Keoghan was nominated this year for his role in “Saltburn,” which was directed by actress and writer Emerald Fennell, daughter of jewelry designer Theo Fennell

Lily Gladstone
Lily Gladstone’s earrings were the most interesting piece of jewelry at the Golden Globes, though I did not spot them until the end of the show when the actress rose to give her acceptance speech for her role in “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

Styled by Jason Rembert, Gladstone wore a custom Valentino gown topped off by a Bulgari high jewelry necklace set with more than 50 carats of round, pear-shape, and pavé-set diamonds and a pair of earrings by Blackfeet/Cree bead artist Lenise Omeasoo of Antelope Women Designs.

Gladstone, who grew up on the Blackfeet reservation in Montana, made history Sunday night as the first Indigenous woman to win the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.

She paid homage to her heritage both through her earrings and through her acceptance speech, which she partially delivered in the Blackfeet language.

The second slide above offers the best view of the earrings. I will be working this week to get additional details on them.

Emily Blunt
The standout jewelry trend at last night’s Golden Globes was statement necklaces, so while I enjoyed Natasha Lyonne’s Schiaparelli earrings and the De Beers diamond earrings on Taylor Swift (who wore my favorite dress of the evening), I’m going to go statement necklace for my last pick.

I thought Golden Globe winner Ali Wong’s Swarovski necklace worked well with her beautiful Grecian-style dress.

Keri Russell, who should have won a Golden Globe a few years back for her role in “The Americans,” also sported a cool, chunky choker that, according to WWD, is from Jil Sander, the same designer who made her dress.

For me, however, it was Emily Blunt, a Best Supporting Actress nominee for “Oppenheimer,” who had the best overall look.

Her sheer Alexander McQueen gown was stunning, and her yellow gold and platinum Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger diamond “Leaves” necklace looks like it was made for this dress.

Styled by Jessica Paster, Blunt added to the look a pair of Tiffany & Co. diamond stud earrings in platinum, a Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany “Stitches” bracelet in platinum and 18-karat yellow gold with diamonds, a Tiffany “Blue Book” collection ring featuring a fancy vivid yellow diamond weighing more than 5 carats, and two Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany “Bird on a Rock” brooches in her hair.

And that completes my thoughts on the 2024 Golden Globes.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to belatedly join the campaign calling for a second season of “My So-Called Life.”
