Rough Diamond Demand Holds Strong, Says De Beers

Sales were up 18 percent in its second sales cycle of the year.

Gaborone, Botswana—De Beers Group’s second sales cycle of the year signaled a continuation of strong rough diamond demand, bolstered by positive consumer sentiment.
 
The company reported $650 million in rough diamond sales between Feb. 21 and March 8.
 
That’s an 18 percent increase compared with its second sales cycle of 2022, which brought in $550 million.
 
“The second sales cycle of the year saw the continuation of robust rough diamond demand underpinned by sustained positive consumer sentiment,” said De Beers Group CEO Bruce Cleaver.

Taking into account the restrictions on the movement of people and products, said De Beers, it continued to take a flexible approach to the sale’s time frame, extending the sight event beyond its usual week-long duration.
 
Due to the extension, the sales numbers are provision and are subject to change baked on final completed sales.
 
Cleaver added that the company has been “shocked and saddened by the war in Ukraine, and our hearts go out to the Ukrainian people.”
 
The company plans to donate $1 million to aid organizations in the region.
