Ann Reinking’s Jewels Sell for More Than $400K at Auction
They were part of the Bonhams New York Jewels sale, which totaled $4.7 million.

Reinking made her Broadway debut in “Cabaret” in 1969. She then went on to appear in the ensembles of “Coco” and “Wild and Wonderful,” before landing a role in the 1972 musical “Pippin,” kicking off a longstanding partnership between her and dancer and choreographer Bob Fosse.
It was then her career really took off, taking center stage in “Over Here!” and earning her first Tony Award nomination for playing Joan of Arc in “Goodtime Charley.”
She was arguably best known for her role as Roxie Hart in the original production of “Chicago,” taking over for Fosse’s wife, Gwen Verdon, in the role.
Reinking later signed on as choreographer in New York City Center’s “Chicago” revival, which opened in 1996 and earned her a Tony Award, but she also ended up reprising her role as the iconic Roxie.
She was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2019, and, that same year, was depicted in the FX limited series “Fosse/Verdon.”

Reinking died in December 2020, and jewelry from her estate went up for auction at Bonhams New York Monday as part of a larger New York Jewels sale.
The top lot from her collection, according to the Bonhams website, was a diamond necklace-bracelet combination from American manufacturer Hammerman Brothers, which totaled $112,812 (including the buyer’s premium) at the auction.
Coming in at No. 2 was a Cartier ruby and diamond necklace that garnered $94,062, followed by a piece that represented a particular favorite pairing for Reinking: sapphire and diamond. The No. 3 lot was a Tiffany & Co. ring centering on a 5-carat sapphire flanked by 2 total carats of trillion diamonds, which went for $37,812.
Rounding out the top five were two more necklaces—the first featuring a line of a baguette diamonds within round brilliant-cut diamond borders (36.95 total carats) in 18-karat gold with a final price of $32,812, and another composed of a series of graduated gold panels set with round brilliant-cut diamonds (19.55 total carats) in 18-karat gold, which went for $22,812.
Twenty-five lots of Reinking’s jewelry went up on the block Monday, and all sold except one.
Meanwhile, the auction’s predicted top lot, a Bulgari ring with a 48.38-carat sapphire at center, sold to a bidder just after the auction ended, selling for $570,000. The predicted No. 2 lot, a ring circa 1930 centered on a 5.39-carat sapphire, went unsold.
Other highlights included a 12.40-carat diamond ring that garnered $325,312, an 8.02-carat emerald-cut diamond ring that sold for $237,812, and a circa 1910 Cartier ring centered on an 18.60-carat sapphire with pear-shaped diamond accents that went for $212,812.
