Alliance for Responsible Mining Names New Executive Director
Gina D’Amato joins with more than 15 years of experience in sustainable development.
ARM announced Tuesday the appointment of Gina D’Amato to the role, who will focus on promoting the inclusive and sustainable development of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) communities.
She will oversee the Sustainable Mines Program development, a supply and support model for ASM, based on the CRAFT code and Fairmined Standards, in Latin America.
D’Amato joins with more than 15 years of experience in sustainable development.
She has worked with vulnerable population inclusion processes with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, as education and culture director of the Botanical Garden in Medellín, Colombia and as touristic development director of the Governor’s Office of Antioquia, Colombia.
ARM also has an office in Europe, directed by Marcin Piersiak, who stepped into that role in May to lead the positioning of ARM on the continent and expand ASM activities in areas outside of Latin America.
Piersiak and D’Amato will work closely together to grow the alliance’s scope in tandem across regions.
“With my arrival in the organization, we will proceed on strategic issues such as impact visibility from project implementation in response to the current challenges with climate change; the joint work with ARM in Europe and other actors; and the consolidation of Sustainable Mines Program, aiming to help artisanal and small-scale miners to have better living conditions and new opportunities to commercialize their products,” D’Amato said.
