These 7 Sentiments Will Shape 2022 Jewelry Trends, Le Vian Says

Feedback from collectors and editors, as well as celebrity style, informed Le Vian’s jewelry trend predictions.

This aquaprase Le Vian pendant showcases two of the seven sentiments the jewelry brand thinks will guide design over the next year—love and authenticity.
New York—With the way things have been in the past 18 months, it’s not surprising Le Vian expects sentiments like love and resiliency to play a big part in jewelry in the coming year.

The family-owned jewelry company held its annual catwalk fundraiser at JCK Las Vegas Sunday night to raise money for its chosen charities.

At the event, Le Vian also revealed the trends it believes will drive jewelry design over the next 12 months.

A number of factors play into its jewelry trends forecast, including monitoring the style choices of celebrities.

Le Vian also considers feedback from the jewelry collectors it interacts with at trunk shows across the country and from editors, who share their insights with the brand about how fashion and jewelry trends are interacting.

Here are the seven sentiments it predicts will guide luxury jewelry into 2022.

1. Positivity

Staying positive has been vital, although not always easy, in 2020 and 2021.

Positivity lights up our darkest hours and can be reflected in many colored stones and precious materials, Le Vian said, including yellow diamonds, warm yellow gold—which has been trending for several years—yellow sapphires, and citrine.

2. Love

In these unprecedented times, one thing is always constant: love.

Nothing captures it better than the heart, which Le Vian is calling the “shape of the year.”

Meanwhile, the brand’s “love icon” of the year is the elephant, inspired by the LeVian family’s private collection of jewels dating back to 1501 and its appointment as guardians of the royal jewels of Persia in 1746.

3. Resilience

There’s likely one lesson everyone has taken away from the past year-and-a-half, and that’s resilience.

Applying that to jewelry, Le Vian said the virtue can be expressed by platinum, a material that retains its strength and brightness over time.

4. Authenticity

Today’s shoppers continue to look both for items that are unique and can express their authenticity, and to support brands and companies that offer a point of view and stand by it.

For Le Vian, the sentiment applies to its use of aquaprase, a recently discovered variety of chalcedony and a stone Le Vian calls “nature’s perfect expression of authenticity.”

Specimens of the mineral, which has a unique combination of green and blue hues evoking waves crashing on the beach, will soon be on display at New York’s American Museum of Natural History, thanks to a donation from Le Vian.

5. Wisdom

Experiences in the past year have brought reflection and hope, and, along with them, pearls of wisdom.

The brand represented this sentiment with a pearl collection at its fashion show in Las Vegas, featuring a variety of colors to take the jewel from a traditional staple to a “cutting-edge fashion trend.”

Like gold, pearls have been trending for the past couple years already, and received another boost this year thanks to Vice President Kamala Harris.

6. Obsession

It’s easy for people to become obsessed with something these days, thanks to the internet, whether it’s the latest fashion trends they see popping up everywhere, a popular new TV show everyone is talking about, or a video that’s taken over TikTok.

For fans of Le Vian, the brand said, that obsession extends to brown diamonds, dubbed by the jeweler as “chocolate diamonds.”

7. Statement

After a year of being inside and only seeing people from the shoulders up, it’s no surprise everyone now wants to make a statement, whether it be with bold rings, hoops—particularly popular during the pandemic due to the widespread use of video technology like Zoom—or pendants.

The return of the “Roaring ‘20s”—the idea that people are anxious to dress up and get out after lockdown—has been predicted, though the Delta variant has somewhat delayed the party.
