Lucapa Recovers 39-Carat Pink Diamond
The mining company responsible for finding Angola’s biggest diamonds dug up the rough at its Lulo Diamond Project.

Lucapa, Angola--Australian miner Lucapa Diamond Company, which operates solely in its namesake region of Angola, uncovered a 38.6-carat pink diamond there.
The gem-quality stone was found at the Lulo Diamond Project site, home to plentiful alluvial diamond fields.
Lucapa has been operating there since 2008, initially exploring the area (which is located near Alrosa’s only African mining operation), before starting to mine in January 2015. Lucapa operates the site in partnership with Endiama, the national mining company of Angola, and private group Rosas and Pétalas.
The 38.6-carat pink stone is the largest fancy color diamond to be found at Lulo thus far.
In February, Lucapa mined Angola’s largest rough diamond on record, a 404-carat white stone that sold for $16 million.
The nearly 39-carat diamond discovered at Lulo is not the first impressive pink mined this year.
Petra uncovered a 32-carat rough pink diamond in Tanzania, which garnered $15 million at auction in March.
