New York--The Women’s Jewelry Association now is accepting applications from members for a $5,000 merit-based grant intended to help women in the industry get their businesses off the ground and create growth.
The 2015 Carelle-WJA Member Grant in honor of Brooke Tivol McGrath is open to WJA members in their first five years of business.
Applicants are required to submit an essay explaining why they deserve the award, with judging placing an emphasis on personal dedication and determination as well as a positive attitude toward the jewelry industry.
The deadline to apply for the Carelle-WJA Member Grant is March 1.
The grant was created in memory of Brooke Tivol McGrath, who died unexpectedly in January 2011 of a rare blood infection at the age of 28. McGrath’s family was in the jewelry business and, at the time of her death, she was living in New York working for Carelle.
In her honor, Carelle partnered with the WJA to offer a business grant for its members.
Last year’s winner was Kelly Jacobson, a Chicago-based jewelry designer who started her own studio and also does custom design for a number of stores.
Applications for the 2015 grant can be found here. Additional application materials, like images, can be emailed with the applicant’s name and date of application to wjascholarshipsgrants@gmail.com.
