Warwick, R.I.--Advanced Chemical has named Christine Harrington and Jack Livsey as the winners of its John Venditti Memorial Fund Scholarship, awarding the recent high school graduates $2,500 each.
The scholarship program was founded in memory of Advanced Chemical’s long-time employee John Venditti, who served as vice president of sales at the company from 1992 to 2010, when he died from undetected heart disease.
The program recognizes high school graduates with strong athletic and academic credentials.
Harrington was on her high school’s varsity basketball team for all four years, a member of the National Honor Society and a mentor at a local elementary school. Livsey was captain of the varsity soccer and basketball teams, also a member of the National Honor Society and coaches a basketball team of foster children.
Both will be attending the University of Rhode Island this fall. They will be recognized at the John Venditti Memorial Golf Tournament at the Cranston Country Club on Sept. 20.
The tournament, created for Venditti’s love of golf, benefits the American Heart Association and generates funds for the scholarships.
“GianFranco ‘John’ Venditti was one of those very rare people whose positive and forthright dealings with family, friends and colleagues left all richer for the experience,” Advanced Chemical said. “Those of us who had the good fortune to know John were always touched by his open-heartedness, sincerity and generosity. John was a caring and wonderful family man who engendered goodwill and friendship in all that crossed his path. His loss is immeasurable and he will be deeply missed.”
Advanced Chemical is a family-owned and operated full-service precious metals refinery based in Warwick, R.I.
