Conference on gold jewelry slated for April
Initiatives in Art and Culture has announced the dates for its fourth annual gold conference, “Gold--Desire, Design, and Demand,” an event focusing on gold jewelry, looking in particular at the importance of design and the emotional value and durability of the metal.
New York--Initiatives in Art and Culture has announced the dates for its fourth annual gold conference, “Gold--Desire, Design, and Demand,” an event focusing on gold jewelry, looking in particular at the importance of design and the emotional value and durability of the metal.
The conference is scheduled to take place on April 11 and 12 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Graduate Center at the City University of New York in Manhattan.
Topics covered will include:
--Techniques and forms that contribute to making jewelry that is personally meaningful, as well as the importance of narrative in a collection;
--The challenges and opportunities of marketing to Millenials;
--Trends, trend forecasting and cutting-edge technology will be looked at to discover which messages, aesthetics and techniques will resonate in the ever-changing marketplace;
--The ways in which the buyer can obtain ethically sourced jewelry, with discussion of due diligence under the Dodd–Frank Act and a panel devoted to fair gold, artisanal mining, traceability and the marketplace.
Presenters include legendary goldsmiths Henry Dunay and William Harper; Glenn Adamson, The Nanette L. Laitman director at Museum of Arts and Design in New York City; Mark Emanuel, jeweler and co-owner of David Webb; jewelers Coomi, Ippolita, Pamela Love, Heather Moore, Toby Pomeroy and Alex Woo; Paola De Luca, CEO of Group Creative Intelligence; Rob Bates, senior editor at JCK; Pam Danziger, luxury market expert and founder of Unity Marketing; Peggy Jo Donahue, director of public affairs for MJSA; and Susan Thea Posnock, director of public affairs for Jewelers of America.
