GIA updates colored stone and pearl reports
Beginning Feb. 1, the lab will launch a new format for its colored stone and pearl reports that includes better imagery and the most current gemological terminology.
Carlsbad, Calif.--The Gemological Institute of America has revised its colored stone and pearl reports, adding features meant to allow for better images, more current terminology and consumer-friendly information.
The changes will be effective on Feb. 1.
GIA’s colored stone and pearl reports now will feature a layout in portrait orientation, and a new paper will be used to support higher-quality photos, the Carlsbad-based lab announced.
Additionally, there’ll be one form, a Gemological Report, used for colored stones and pearls going forward.
On Report Check, which allows clients to double-check the information on the report, the colored stone and pearl reports now take the user to a treatments tab if applicable, providing additional gemological information about any treatments that the stone might have undergone. Report data also is included in an additional tab.
These new features will be available for colored gemstones and pearls evaluated on or after Feb. 1.
Another enhancement is that diamonds reports now will include plots and proportion diagrams when available, for reports that were issued on or after Jan. 1, 2014.
