Pocket full of poesies, please

If there are three things I know the National Jeweler editorial team likes, it’s jewelry, animals and socializing (preferably when there is food available.)

We’re also into charitable causes, especially those that help women in need, and on Tuesday night we found ourselves at New York’s historic Tavern on the Green, celebrating all of these things in honor of designer Monica Rich Kosann’s new charity program, “Monica Cares.”

For the program, Kosann has partnered with three charitable organizations and designed six new poesy ring necklaces (popular in the 15th through 17th centuries, these rings have a short inscription on the inside of the band), with two necklaces devoted to each charity. A minimum of 50 percent of each sale of a necklace will be donated to the correlating organization.

The first partnership is with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to eradicating breast cancer in our lifetime. Kosann has created two “Strength” poesy ring necklaces for this cause, available in sterling silver and 18-karat rose gold.

The Strength poesy ring necklaces; $575 of the $1,150 purchase price of the 18-karat rose gold piece will be donated to the BCRF, and $72.50 of the $145 purchase price of the silver necklace will be given to the organization. Both rings are set with pink sapphires and have “Strength” engraved on the inside of the band.

Kosann also has teamed up with the North Shore Animal League America, the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. The “Unconditional Love” poesy ring necklaces created for this cause are available in 18-karat yellow gold and sterling silver, and also are stamped with a little paw print.

The Unconditional Love poesy ring necklaces; inscribed on the inside is “Unconditional Love.” For the 18-karat yellow gold necklace, $702.50 of the $1,405 purchase price will be donated to the North Shore Animal League, and for the silver piece, $87.75 of the $135 purchase price will be donated.

There’s also Win, another nonprofit agency that serves 10,000 homeless women and their children in New York City every year. Kosann’s “Hope Love Win” poesy ring necklaces for this organization are available in 18-karat yellow gold and sterling silver.

For the Hope Love Win poesy necklaces, $557.50 of the $1,115 purchase price of the 18-karat yellow gold piece will benefit Win, as well as $84.50 of the $130 purchase price of the silver necklace.

Not pictured in this blog, but available, is only the 18-karat rose gold rings (no chain) from each line.

For the Strength ring,

$425 of the $850 purchase price of the ring being donated to the BCRF. Sales of the 18-karat yellow gold Unconditional Love ring give $492.50 of the $985 purchase price to the North Shore Animal League, and $347.50 of the $695 purchase price of the “Hope Love Win” ring will benefit Win.

Check out all of the jewelry on Monica Rich Kosann’s website.
