For those who’ve been struggling over the age-old question “What shall I indulge in, diamonds or a flat-screen TV?” A. Link and Philips Electronic now have the perfect answer: An Ambilight Flat TV featuring 225 carats of diamonds.
The set, with close to 2,250 diamonds in a floral pattern around the edges, is the one-millionth flat-screen TV from the company. It will tour the world in celebration of that milestone.
Despite the implications, men of the world shouldn’t panic just yet. Chances are it won’t become a cultural imperative to purchase a diamond-encrusted television set when you propose. In fact, the one-of-a-kind bling TV isn’t for sale at retail, but will be auctioned off for charity later this year.
Diamonds, however, are turning up in the oddest places these days—from cell phones to handbags—as jewelers eyeing other luxury players remember the adage: "If you can’t beat them, join them."
