Is There a New ‘Bling Ring’ Operating in LA?
Kevin Hart, Blac Chyna, Scott Disick and Chris Brown are among the celebrities that might have been targeted by a new circle of jewelry thieves.
Los Angeles--A spree of celebrity robberies in the City of Angels has reportedly left police wondering if they might be dealing with a new “Bling Ring.”
Comedian and actor Kevin Hart is the latest celebrity to have been targeted by the possible crime ring; the actor reported the theft of watches, jewelry, clothing and other personal items from his Tarzana, Calif. home on June 13, police confirmed to E! News. Hart was in Miami the weekend the robbery was perpetrated.
Though the Los Angeles Police Department declined comment to National Jeweler for this story, celebrity news website TMZ.com reported that police officials have noted similarities between the Hart case and other celebrity residence thefts over the past year.
Scott Disick’s Hidden Hills, Calif. home was reportedly burglarized in May while the reality star was in Cannes, France. Disick was robbed of multiple high-end watches and jewelry.
This followed the robbery of another Kardashian paramour, Blac Chyna, who was reportedly robbed of more than $200,000 in cash and jewelry from a safe in her Tarzana, Calif. residence sometime over the weekend of April 30.
Police are also questioning whether these crimes are connected to the burglary of Chris Brown’s San Fernando Valley, Calif. residence on July 15 of last year, TMZ noted.
The original “Bling Ring,” which spawned a memorable Vanity Fair article and a Sofia Coppola film loosely based on the band of bandits, consisted of seven teenagers and young adults who robbed the homes of celebrities between October 2008 and August 2009, mainly for the thrill of it. In all, they stole about $3 million worth of jewelry, cash and clothing.
And, in what seems like almost Hollywood-orchestrated timing, Monday was convicted Bling Ring burglar Alexis Neiers’ 25th birthday.
