Lake City, S.C.--One man is in custody and more arrests are expected following the brutal beating and robbery of an employee of a jewelry store on Philadelphia’s Jewelers’ Row.
Steve Bartholomew, a special agent with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), told Philly.com that police arrested a 31-year-old man Friday at the Security Inn & Suites in Lake City, S.C. The man, identified as Khayree Gay, faces federal kidnapping and robbery charges.
The two other suspects wanted in connection with the crime were not at the inn at the time, though more arrests are expected in the case, Philly.com reports.
The victim, a 53-year-old woman, was forced into a van by three men on the afternoon of Saturday, April 4 as she left work and was headed to her car in a parking garage.
The suspects beat her, used a stun gun on her and demanded the keys to the store and codes to the safe, which she did not have. They stole and used her ATM card and dumped her in a cemetery, only to return and kidnap her again.
After being left in the cemetery a second time, the victim was able to flag down help and was treated at a local hospital for her injuries and released.
The mayor’s office in the City of Brotherly Love is offering a $10,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of those involved in the attack.
