Maryland Retailer Donald McCutchen Dies at 70
He and his wife, Ellie, opened Rockville’s McCutchen Jewelers in 1988.
Rockville, Md.—Donald McCutchen, who co-owned McCutchen Jewelers in Rockville, Maryland, died suddenly on June 17 after a brief illness.
He was 70.
A native of Oklahoma, McCutchen started his career four decades ago, working in the jewelry department of E.J. Korvette, a national chain of discount department stores that went out of business in 1980.
McCutchen later refined his skills at Theodore Nye Jewelers, a high-end guild store in the Washington, D.C. area, before opening his own jewelry store alongside his wife, Eleanore McCutchen (Ellie), in 1988.
Located in the D.C. suburbs, McCutchen Jewelers operated with the philosophy of providing customers with well-made, custom-fit jewelry sold by a staff of highly trained gemologists and diamond experts in a no-pressure sales atmosphere.
McCutchen is survived by his wife, Ellie; his daughter and grandchildren; his brothers and sisters; and a group of devoted friends.
Burial will take place in McCutchen’s native Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society.
