Think You Can Design an Engagement Ring Around This Yellow Diamond?
The Black in Jewelry Coalition is calling for jewelry designers to enter its second annual “Together by Design” competition.

Now in its second year, Together by Design pairs a couple who have a compelling love story—already selected by this year’s panel of judges—with a jewelry designer who can create an engagement ring reflective of their relationship.
This year, designers wishing to enter will need to submit a sketch, CAD drawing or other visual representation of what they would create for the winning couple, incorporating details from their unique story, which is available here.
All design submissions also must incorporate this year’s donated diamond—a 1.44-carat fancy yellow diamond from Nungu Diamonds—as well as platinum, donated by Platinum Guild International USA.
Colored gemstone side stones are optional and, if included in the final design, will be donated by Anza Gems and/or B&B Fine Gems.
Once the winning designer is selected, they will collaborate with the couple to bring the design to life, ensuring it completely reflects their tastes and shared experiences.
For designers unfamiliar with working in platinum, PGI USA has committed to providing resources and support.
The winning designer also will receive $5,000 cash, a scholarship for education at the Gemological Institute of America, memberships to Jewelers of America and the Jewelers Vigilance Committee, and a scholarship to GRS.
“This contest not only showcases the incredible talent within the jewelry industry but also celebrates the power of love and meaningful connections,” BIJC Board President Annie Doresca said. “We encourage jewelry designers from all backgrounds to participate and be a part of this transformative journey.”
The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Aug. 25.
