Jeweler says ‘It’s About Time’ for marriage equality
After the Supreme Court’s ruling declaring same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states, Long’s Jewelers quickly crafted a newspaper advertisement showing where it stands on the issue.
Burlington, Mass.--After the U.S. Supreme Court released its ruling that made same-sex marriage a right nationwide on Friday, Massachusetts retailer Long’s Jewelers acted quickly to show its support for both the decision and the LGBT community.
Just hours before the Boston Globe’s deadline, Long’s created an advertisement to run in the Sunday paper, featuring a watch with a rainbow bezel and the words “It’s About Time,” to capture the retailer’s excitement over the news and reflect its support of and involvement in the LGBT community.
Long’s has been a longtime supporter of Boston Spirit magazine, a leading LGBT publication in New England, and running this ad in the Boston Globe was a natural extension of that support, the retailer said.
After the ad ran in the Sunday Globe, the store said that there was an immediate positive reaction from customers, as well as a few purchase inquiries regarding the watch featured in the ad.
“We are thrilled to commemorate this victory in American history and to continue supporting the road to equality,” Long’s Jewelers Marketing Ambassador Sarah Johansson said. “We are proud to live in a country where love wins.”
Established in 1878, Long’s Jewelers has five stores in Massachusetts, in Boston, Braintree, Peabody, Natick and Burlington.
