MJSA to Launch Live Seminar Series in Tucson Next Year
MJSA Journal Live will feature industry professionals who contribute their expertise to its monthly journal.
New York—MJSA will launch a series of seminars next year based on the expertise it includes in its monthly magazine.
MJSA Journal Live will debut at the 2022 AGTA GemFair Tucson, set to return to an in-person event at the Tucson Convention Center from Feb. 1-6.
MJSA Journal Live sessions will take place twice a day—9-10:30 a.m. and 1-2:30 p.m.—from Feb. 2 through Feb. 4 for a total six sessions.
Presenting will be past journal contributors Lisa Krikawa of Krikawa Custom Jewelers in Tucson, Gary Dawson of Gary Dawson Designs, and jewelry designer and artist Rémy Rotenier.

Wednesday, Feb. 2
“Profitable Pricing for Custom: Running a Sustainable Custom Shop”
9-10:30 a.m.
Lisa Krikawa will explore the factors that should go into the price of a custom creation and tackle a tricky question: How does one financially account for his or her own creativity?
“Five-Star Custom Service: Nailing Internal and External Communications”
1-2:30 p.m.
Krikawa will explain how to talk with custom clients to discover their interests and tastes and will address how to keep communication flowing between the customer and the in-house team to make sure a custom piece hits the mark.
Thursday, Feb. 3
“CAD Connection 1: Tips for ‘Blips’ When Working in Rhino”
9-10:30 a.m.
Gary Dawson will explore how to handle the most common “blips”—small problems that can cause big headaches—that occur when using Rhino for CAD work.
“CAD Connection 2: Transforming in Rhino”
1-2:30 p.m.
Dawson will describe how to use the all-important “transform” command in CAD—crucial to positioning and orienting elements—most effectively, as well as how to create and modify SubD objects.
Friday, Feb. 4
“Gaining an Edge: Drawing Common Gemstone Cuts”
9-10:30 a.m.
Jeweler and teacher Rémy Rotenier will show attendees how to draw emerald-cut, round, and princess-cut gems to help boost retail sales and clarify production details. No art experience necessary.
“Going Organic: A Step-by-Step Guide to Drawing Pearls”
1-2:30 p.m.
Rotenier will teach how to sketch different types of pearls—round white, black Tahitian drops, and baroque—to bring them to life in all styles of jewelry. No art experience necessary.
